Gain experience, build confidence
Many international students choose to work part-time while studying at Ludlow University. It’s a great way to earn extra money, gain valuable experience, and develop skills that will support your future career. Whether you’re looking for work on campus or in the local community, there are plenty of opportunities available - and our dedicated teams are here to help you every step of the way.
Understanding your visa conditions
If you hold a Student Route visa, you may be allowed to work up to 20 hours per week during term time, and full-time during holidays. The exact conditions depend on your course and visa type, so it’s important to check your visa stamp or biometric residence permit (BRP).
Our International Student Support team can help you understand your work rights and ensure you remain compliant with UK immigration rules.
Types of work available
There are a variety of roles available both on and off campus. Many students work in cafés, shops, and local businesses, while others take on roles within the university - such as library assistants, student ambassadors, or event helpers.
Ludlow also offers opportunities for paid internships and part-time positions within academic departments, research projects, or administrative teams, giving you experience directly related to your studies.
Finding a job
The Careers and Employability team provides one-to-one guidance, job search tools, and access to our online job portal listing current vacancies. They can help you write your CV, prepare for interviews, and connect with employers who understand the needs of international students.
You can also attend careers fairs and networking events on campus throughout the year to explore opportunities and meet potential employers.
Balancing work and study
While working can be rewarding, your studies should always come first. We recommend planning your schedule carefully to make sure your job doesn’t interfere with lectures, assignments, or rest.
Ludlow’s academic advisors and wellbeing team can help you find the right balance so you can enjoy a positive and productive experience both in and outside the classroom.
Building your career
Part-time work is more than just a source of income - it’s a chance to develop transferable skills such as teamwork, communication, and time management. Employers value these experiences, and they can make your CV stand out after graduation.
You’ll also gain insight into UK workplace culture, build professional contacts, and grow your confidence in real-world settings.
